((OOC: alright, let's do this! i haven't roleplayed in a long while, so i apologize if this is worded sort of weirdly!)
BIC: It was dusk. She leaned against the wall of the dilapidated warehouse, waiting, wondering when it was safe to go back into the city. Nighttime was usually silent, but there were always annual patrols, going around the city, making sure nothing was out of place. Estelle wasn't sure how or why she had traveled across Wixham earlier that day; maybe it was a dare or something, or maybe she was dragged along with some others, she couldn't remember. All she knew was that she was stuck in this big empty place, and unless those stupid cops would stop going up and down the street, she would stay here for the remainder of the night. It was dangerous out here, especially since her powers were much more evident than others. If only she had learned how to control them by now...
The place itself was in horrible condition, abandoned after a certain incident that involved a horde of Alternates hiding in the cargo of weapons, ammunition. They were found and sent to the labs, where they were probably killed. Since then, it hadn't been in use, and some had suggested that perhaps the spirits of the Alternates lingered around, waiting to kill one of the citizens in the same manner that they had died. Estelle knew that story was silly and false, but the derelict plant did seem sort of otherworldly. Rats occasionally poked from their holes, curious, wonder who that strange slender woman was. Where did all that ice come from? Why was it so cold? They went back in their holes, where it was safe and warm. She watched them with a cautious curiosity, bright blue eyes standing out against the dark room.
After a few moments of waiting, the girl quietly slipped from her position and took a look outside. The sun had finally slipped down the horizon, it seemed. Ice cracked and melted, much quicker than when it had formed. It was an especially balmy night tonight. But nobody was around, finally, and she took the opportunity to head back home. Hopefully it would be much safer, now that the residents has finally gone to bed. Hopefully, hopefully nobody would be around...

His arms were killing him, sweat-slicken and strained as he carried a massive bundle of fire wood in his arms. Shawn was strong, sure, but lugging that much weight for over a mile through the winding paths of Wixham was agony. Why was he carrying logs around at this hour? Because he had duties, dawn or dusk, rain or shine.
Shawn was nearing the outskirts of town now, arms threatening to buckle. So close, he thought with a soft grunt of determination. A moment later, his boot caught on a jagged chunk of asphalt, causing him to stumble and release the load. The logs tumbled out of his arms with loud thunk thunk noises. Shawn swore under his breath, looking around behind him. The coast appeared to be clear, his eyes struggling to focus against the darkness. He could have sworn he saw movement.

She silently walked through the seemingly abandoned town, sometimes looking behind her back looking for anyone who might also be about. But who would be up at this ungodly hour, besides patrols? She chuckled to herself at the thought. Her anxiety and stress eased as she motioned through the town, ghostlike. She was familiar with this part of town, the outskirts. The buildings were less cluttered, less noise, less rusting and decaying establishments that would fall into oblivion sooner or later. She walked along here every so often, usually when she needed to be by herself, get away from the idiots she had to deal with on a daily basis. Company was offered, but never welcome.
A trail of melting ice followed her, which would evaporate by the time dawn set it. It seemed strangely peaceful, the moon being hung up into the sky, watching the stars come out of their hiding place, one by one. They had stories of their own. Birth, life, death. It all seemed so far away. The girl nearly fell into a trance, so dreamlike. She could stay like this forever.
But a sudden clatter woke her up, startling her. It echoed loudly, trailing off into the city streets.
She blinked a few times, rubbing her eyes. What could have that been? Who would be around right now? She feared that it would be one of them, one of the brutish humans that inhabited the hellish city. But it seemed to have come near the outskirts, the closest to a suburbia it could get. If hardly anyone was up right now, why would anyone be so far away from the center? Curiosity told her to go to the source, come on, it might be fun, common sense told her to get back home, dammit, people are going to get mad at you. She went with the source; she felt especially foolish after deciding to look for whoever might have dropped whatever, but it probably wouldn't be anyone dangerous.
If it was... that would be something she would figure out later.

Shawn shook his head, his eyes must have been playing tricks on him again. He spat a few more unholy words as he gathered his logs, carefully stacking them in his arms. All he wanted right now was to rid himself of these filthy clothes and take a hot shower, he couldn't ask for more. Shawn turned to grab the last log when he saw a figure lingering in the distance, and this time he was sure of it. His eyes couldn't make out the figure's gender, but more importantly why was someone out here this late? Did they follow him because they had noted him as suspicious, or was it just a coincidence? Was he over-thinking it? Shawn decided to ignore the person and carry on with his business, figuring it was better not to stare and make himself look like even more of a suspect.
OOC; Sorry of lack of intro with this character, hah.

As Estelle strode closer to the figure, she sighed with relief. He was like her, she could tell. He didn't seem to notice her all too well, just taking a glance at her, making sure she wasn't one of the others. Probably. Drawing a bit closer, her vision sharpened and she noticed that he had dropped whatever made that hideous noise. Logs. Good. The pressure that had built up in her chest, the stress and fearfulness, it all seemed to go away so quickly. She decided to follow him, since she had strayed much too far away from her own path. Much too dark. Hopefully they would be going to the same place...
Attempting to catch up with the tall fellow, Estelle followed him from afar. He seemed alright, if a bit quiet; he wasn't as loud and obnoxious as the others she had to deal with on a daily basis. At this point in time, she was much too tired and much too desperate to just ignore him. There was something strange, something off... though she couldn't really tell what it was. Probably a basic instinct to stay in groups or whatever, in case one of the regulars found them. I bet I'm just going to come off as a creeper to him, she thought, but it's much too late now. Though she rarely raised her voice to a yell, she attempted to get his attention while also hoping to not attract it from anyone else. "Eh, hello?" she called out, waving awkwardly. She was never very good at getting people's attention...

Shawn froze and snapped his head in the direction of a female voice that spoke to him, startled. His eyes studied her briefly; she was lean and pale, part of her face hidden beneath a veil of dark hair. The girl didn't appear to be much of a threat, and he knew immediately this was the person who was watching him from afar just moments ago. Shawn drew in a breath and raised his chin. "Who are you?" he asked in a firm, but not rude tone. "And why are you following me?"

Estelle was a bit startled by how quickly the man reacted; she hasn't expected him to be so to-the-point. She wasn't intimidated, no. She was just a bit intrigued. Finally getting a good look at him, she noticed how tall and burly he was, with shaggy blonde hair and sharp eyes... sharp eyes that seemed oddly dull. He seemed to be at least two heads taller than she was - Estelle has to look upwards just to see his face. Obviously much stronger than she could have ever been. That, she admitted, was sort of daunting. "Estelle." She answered, just as adamantly. "I heard a noise. Lost my way, I guess, and now I'm following you since I suppose we're going to the same place..." She felt sort of foolish after answering, realizing she hadn't though ahead. Oh well. Not much she could do now.
((ooc: sorry this was so short! couldn't really think of anything...))

OOC; Don't worry about short posts. I personally don't care much. Sometimes there just isn't that much to say. xD
BIC; Shawn blinked. What was she getting at? Did she think I was that dull, or had she really lost her way? he thought. What if she knew who he was, knew what he was, and was trying to fool him into taking her home with him so she could kill more Alternates? It might sound a bit of an exaggeration, but it has happened before. Though this girl didn't look like she had an ounce of murder in her, you could never be too cautious. Shawn took a step back and leaned down, dumping his armful of wood onto the ground."I'm not sure I understand you, Miss. What do you mean 'the same place'?" Shawn asked, folding his arms over his chest.

He seemed suspicious of her, something that caught her off guard. He asked for explanation. Thinking up a good way to explain her dilemma, Estelle chuckled nervously. This wasn't going exactly how she had planned... She knew this man was much stronger than she was. He could easily break her in half if he so chose to. "Err, you know what I mean, right? A place for certain people... like... us. Alternates." she grinned sheepishly. I'm losing my composure... can't let this happen, she thought. He didn't seem impressed. Angry, even. He obviously didn't buy it. Hastily, she added, "I'm like you. I promise. Let me show you..." Glancing behind her, making sure nobody was around, Estelle rolled back one of her sleeves. Holding it out for him to see, she quietly let a layer of ice form on her arm, several icicles inching down towards the earth. It gave her chills. Maybe this would be enough to convince him...

Shawn watched closely as the girl demonstrated the power within her, icicles spiking from her arm. He was convinced, sure, that wasn't the kind of trick that you pull out of a magic kit, but he was baffled as to why she would out herself to a complete stranger. It was a foolish thing to risk on a hunch. "So, why are you so confident that I'm not one of the bad guys?" Shawn asked, stepping closer to the girl slowly until he was towering above her, making direct eye contact.

That wasn't something she thought of. He was towering over her, making her squirm in her own skin. She grimaced. No. Estelle was sure that this man was an Alternate. A hunch, maybe. She wasn't sure. But she knew that he was like her, yes, she knew. Yes, maybe, no. She didn't. She was just trusting him, a foolish trust. Trusting that he would kill her right then and there. "Well..." she trailed off, casting a nervous glance upward. He was still staring down. Anxiously, she continued,"You just don't... seem like that type of person. You haven't been obnoxious or loud or anything... besides, who would be wandering around the outskirts in the dead of night...?" How ironic! What a tight situation. Perhaps it would have been better just to ignore him rather than get interrogated. She wondered if she could just make a run for it...

This girl was all too innocent, maybe a tad naive even. Shawn had no intention of hurting her, he just wanted her to see what sort potential trouble her foolishness could have gotten her into. "Well," he said, extending a hand toward her. His palm pinkened with heat, gently melting the ice away from the girl's tiny arm."You're safe this time." Shawn smiled weakly, letting her know for sure he was one like her. But what was he to do with her now? Should he take her with him to the caverns?
OOC; I'm going to bed now, speak tomorrow yeah?^^ Goodnight

Estelle smiled, took his hand, and watched all the ice melt away. She felt strangely warm for once, a sensation that she loved. Usually, the process of melting all that ice would have taken much longer with just her body heat. She was amazed. So that was his power, huh? Fire manipulaion. This would be interesting. He seemed friendly enough to her. Not a threat. Perhaps this turn of events wasn't as bad as she originally thought it was. It might be alright, after all. No use going back to that cramped wooden shack outside of town, with that traveling druggie - Kennedy, was it? She wasn't sure. Drowsiness had finally kicked in. Even then, that was no excuse for how she acted earlier. She nodded to him, straightening up. She didn't want to look like some naïve idiot again. She had already opened up more than she had to, anyway. It was time to act normal again. Quietly, she slipped back a bit, watching him gather up the firewood, smiling faintly. Was it a good idea to come with him, become a burden? What would his friends think?
((ooc; night!))

Shawn thought for a moment, considering his options. He knew by nature they were supposed to assist those of their own kind, and he personallly failed to see any harm in bringing the girl back with him. The others were usually pretty welcoming, at least in Shawn's area. It was just one night anyway, right? She must have a somewhere to get back to. "Do you uh, need a place to stay for the night, Miss?" he asked, tucking a couple logs under his arm.

"Just for one night." Estelle attempted to assure him with an awkward hand motion. It was a probably a much better (and safer) idea to just go with him rather than try to find her way back in the dark. This was pretty awkward. The man seemed friendly enough, and she was sure that there would be no harm in just spending a while, wherever he was. Her little hideout was probably too far away for her to try Kennedy wouldn't notice, probably. Other thoughts lingered around her mind, hey, maybe you should become friends with this guy, he might be helpful in the future, but she ignored them. There was little use in making friends with him, since she'd only be around for one night. Might as well ask him his name! the same little voice whispered. No. He would have already told her his name if he wanted to make friends. Asking it now would just seem even more odd. She just waited for him to lead the way.
