Rayven felt his defenses drop as the boy admitted to having powers of his own. Surely that meant he could be trusted. Nodding, he took a step forward, extending his good hand.
"Call me Rayven," he said, and for the first time a hint of a smile played across the man's features. Then, dropping his voice so that anyone passing would not hear he continued, "So what can you do? You've already seen my gift, the control over animals. But yours isn't as obvious."

Benjamin nodded his head at the man's introduction. "Benjamin," the youth said, taking the offered hand and giving it a shake. The boy lowered his voice to almost a whisper as he continued. "I can talk to inanimate objects. Comes in handy when you're a detective." He chuckled and released Raven's hand. "So, do you care where we go for dinner? I'd like something warm--preferably soup-- but we'll have to get it and run. I'd hate to attract too much--attention." He looked Raven up and down and nodded. It was definitely best to keep a low profile at this point. Wouldn't want to be shipped off to a concentration camp or anything like that.

So. The boy was a detective. Rayven found himself grinning slightly at the boy's explanation of his gift. It sounded quite bizarre to the man, this being able to "speak" to inanimate objects, but then he supposed being able to force his will unto animals was not quite normal either. His stomach, however, interrupted his thoughts with yet another loud growl at the mention of a warm meal. Soup sounded absolutely wonderful. In the youth's face, too, he saw echoed his own concerns of being discovered. The man had heard a number of stories about the sort of things that happened to their kind at the so-called camps and had no intention of finding out if they were true first hand.
"Of course," he replied smoothly. "Attention's never been a good thing for our kind." He trailed off slightly, looking around as though suddenly nervous. "In fact," he continued. "I'd say we'd best get a move on. You have a place in mind?"

Benjamin chewed his lip thoughtfully as he ran through the list of diners and small restaurants that were close by. "There's a small place nearby that has pretty good food," the boy said at last. "We can just get something to go and--" Benjamin stopped. He wasn't sure he trusted Rayven enough to bring him back to his little hell hole of a home, so he supposed they'd just have to eat outside. The youth rubbed his neck and gave an uneasy chuckle. "I guess we'll just make it up as we go along after that," he mumbled. He waved for Rayven to follow him and casually strolled down the street, sticking his grubby hands in his pockets. The place wasn't too far away so hopefully they wouldn't have any problems getting there. Benjamin looked around as if watching the crows that were flying about, glad to see the street was pretty much deserted.
