Erika was still trying to not fall asleep again as she watched Kadence look over at the calendar. She glanced over at the sheet and nodded as she saw it was indeed Sunday. Erika blushed a bright red at Kadence's question. "I-I live in a condemned apartment building..." she murmured. "Sure the first few floors're caved in, but it's um... nice." Erika nodded to emphasize her point. At least nobody noticed her. Her telepathy made sure they walked past the building without even stopping to glance at it. "What's wrong with it being Sunday?" Erika asked curiously as she tried to change the subject.

"Because it's the third Sunday of the month. Me and my brother need to move again," I huffed, crossing my arms. "So we'll be outta here before lunch. We never stay in one place too long, it's not safe. But if we can, we do come back to our old places... sometimes." I let out a huge yawn, making no effort to cover my mouth. "But yeah. It sucks. I think David has some super secret long-term plan he won't tell me about though, but whatever." As if on cue, there was a crash of the door downstairs, and my brother came clunking up with several brown paper bags in his arms. An irresistible aroma of hot food flooded the room, causing me to nearly dribble on myself. "Oh, you're up. Good." said David. "I thought we could both use some real breakfast to get us going this morning," he said, placing the bags on the coffee table in front of Erika. He sat down beside the girl and began emptying them, pulling out several Styrofoam boxes, paper packets of hash browns, fresh fruit cups, along with dozens of ketchup and maple syrup sachets. I rushed over, leaping onto the opposing couch, I watched with hungry eyes as the banquet expanded across the table. I couldn't remember the last time I was served a real breakfast. "David! How did you afford all this?" I exclaimed, bewildered. My brother popped the lid on one of the white boxes, then handed it me. Inside were three puffy pancakes, two eggs, and pile of juicy bacon. "Don't worry about it," he answered, checking the contents of another box before passing it to Erika. From the glimpse I caught, I guessed she had gotten scrambled eggs and sausage, with some other bread-type thing. Probably french toast. David's own box was stuffed to the brim with fluffy egg, crispy sausage, pancakes, and seasoned potatoes. "Help yourselves, you need your energy" he said, gesturing toward the pile of extra food he brought, then unwrapped a plastic fork and dug into his meal. I decided not to question further, drizzled a packet of syrup onto the pancakes in front of me, then shoved a forkful into my mouth. Oh. My God.

The bleary-eyed Erika literally fell off the couch at the crash of the door. Luckily she was able to scramble back onto the couch and compose herself before David came in. The smell that came from those brown bags was enough to make her forget about the giant in the room... Until he went and sat beside her. Erika's face paled but she did thank David for her box of food--very quietly. Trying not to draw attention to herself, she quickly began to pick at her scrambled eggs. Her stomach was growling angrily at her to be filled but her throat had dried up pretty quickly and she couldn't swallow. As she tried to eat, Erika's mind was on Kadence's words. Sure where she lived wasn't A'll that great. But it was roomy and safe. She wasn't going to suggest they move there for a little while, but if Kadence brought it up she certainly wouldn't refuse. She certainly wasn't looking forward to parting ways with the other girl and her... brother. Erika lifted her eyes to David's face for half a second to look at him. After studying his face for a moment she dropped her gaze to her food again. Her fork slipped from her trembling hands and slid across the floor. "Woops. Sorry..." Erika mumbled in an embarrassed voice. She could have screamed at herself for having such a stupid fear. She was just making a fool of herself now. Erika glanced at Kadence and then hid her face in her hands with the platter of food balanced precariously on her lap.

Both David and myself paused to observe Erika's strange behavior. The girl fumbled around with her fork and dropped it on the ground, clumsily retrieving it before apologizing and burying her face in her hands. David looked to me, raising an eyebrow. I shrugged, drawing my hands up to emphasize I had no idea. Why was it whenever my brother entered the room Erika froze up and lost her composure? It was kind of amusing, in a pathetic sort of way. Was she really that scared, or what it something different? David spoke first. "Um, you alright, Miss?" he asked, obviously unsure of what to do. He then reached out with two fingers and gently pried her wrist. I quietly nibbled at my bacon, curious as to how she would react to my brother's touch. Maybe she would faint.

Erika quickly pulled her hand away from the contact. Her vision began to blur as fear washed over her and she nearly passed out. Forcing herself to remain calm despite the fact David had just touched her, she nodded at both him and Kadence. "I-I'm fine," she breathed, getting up to retrieve her fork. Erika sat back down and cut into her French toast a little before turning back to David and looking up at him sheepishly. "Miss isn't really necessary," she said quietly. "Erika would be just fine..." Her voice trailed off and she returned her attention to her breakfast. The girl's heart was pounding loudly in her ears. At least he hadn't sucked the life out of her yet. That was definitely a plus.

"Erika, sorry." David apologized. The remainder of our meal together was spent in silence, only broken by the occasional lip smack. I finished off the pancakes and tossed the box aside, wiped my mouth on my sleeve and gave my tummy a gluttonous pat. That was by far the best meal I had had in months. David stuffed the empty boxes and trash into the original paper bags and stood. "Come on, Kadence. Go grab your stuff and let's go." he said, casting a sideways glance at Erika. Is she coming too? his expression seemed to ask as he passed through the door into the back room. I personally had no problem with Erika tagging along, but the real decision-making rest in David's hands. I sat up and leaped off the couch, following my brother to gather my things, I shoved them into a black rucksack, making sure to check the far corners of our living space for anything of value that might be hiding, then returned to the main control room to check the food cupboards. "So..." I began awkwardly, unsure of what to say or ask my new friend. "You going back to your apartment?" I managed, chucking a couple boxes of dry goods into my bag. Would Erika really want to join us? Or was she too afraid of David?

Erika swept her crumbs from the table half-heartedly and brushed them into a paper bag. She watched David disappear and then turned to Kadence. "I-I suppose so," she said, trying not to sound as depressed as she was beginning to feel. Kadence and her brother had been the only people like her that she'd seen for weeks. Parting company so soon made Erika want to cry. Not that she would. She'd learned a long time ago that tears will only give you red, irritated eyes. "I mean, I'd like to join you both, but I'd hate to be a deadweight... And your brother is probably convinced that I'm just a stupid, blundering water manipulator," Erika added as she stood. She brushed her hair from her pale face and wandered into the back room to wash her face. Why wouldn't he think I was a stupid, blundering water manipulator? Erika asked herself as she took the water from the bucket and splashed it onto her face. Every time he's around I make a fool of myself... She sighed softly and used her telekinesis to stop the water from moving so she could see her reflection. Her concentration broke for a moment as she heard Kadence in the kitchen and the water flew everywhere, leaving Erika and the floor soaked.

David crammed the last of his things into his backpack, struggling to make the most of the little luggage space he had left. Around the corner, the sound of the door being flung open startled David. He jumped, then paused to listen for a few moments as light splashes echoed throughout the room, followed by one big crash of water spilling over the floor. David stood to investigate, turning to see Erika standing beside the sink, soaked with water pooling around her shoes. She looked upset. "I know you're not a water-manipulator, just so we're clear." David broke the silence, leaning against the far wall with his arms crossed. "You want to tell me what's up?" he asked, straightening up and approaching the girl until he stood just three feet from her. His expression was unreadable.

Erika looked up and blushed as David found her soaked to the bone. She felt like passing out but she needed to face her fears and act normally. The color drained from her face when he told her the game was up and she leaned her back against the useless sink. Was she supposed to tell him? Was she supposed to reveal what she really was? Kadence hadn't gone over that with her... Erika let out a defeated sigh. It didn't really matter if she told him or not. He wouldn't take her with him and Kadence anyway. "All right, all right," she said, brushing water from her eye and looking up at the giant. He was so close now... Focus, she told herself. "I'm not a water manipulator, I-I'm a telepath... I read people's thoughts and have limited telekinesis. Very limited telekinesis, I should say," Erika admitted, rubbing her arm and looking at her feet. "I-I know how paranoid you are about your security and I know with my powers I'm untrustworthy so if you want me to go I'll go..." Erika took a deep breath after spilling literally all of the beans and waited for the verdict.

David sighed. "Don't," he said, shaking his head. "How has this place not broken your spirits yet?" he asked in amazement. "It's weird. You're so innocent... and open." David looked to the girl, who appeared to be incredibly nervous. He thought over what she said about his "security" and how she was untrustworthy because of her powers. It was true, he did have trust issues. But in all honesty, his powers weren't any less untrustworthy than hers. David had been skeptical of this girl at first, especially after last night's awkwardness. Kadence had definitely not done any justice to the situation, and he felt slightly bad for Erika for whatever instruction of his sister's she might have followed. The vibes David received from Erika were far from dangerous at this point even with her extreme abilities, and he decided to give her a shot. "Look, don't go. I... I think you should join us. I mean, my sister really likes you and all. It's good for her. And to be fair, I think you could use some company yourself." he said, struggling a bit to put his thoughts into words. Truthfully, he didn't want Erika to go. Not that he would admit it, but she did intrigue him.

"I bet my openness will be the death of me some day," Erika said with a little laugh as she became more comfortable around the boy. "I should really work on that. I'm just a horrible liar so it's hard..." The girl blinked in surprise at David's next words. Her face brightened and she felt like bouncing up and down... Except if she did she'd probably freak David out. "Are you serious?!" she asked excitedly. Erika caught herself and tried again. "I mean, thank you so much!" she said in a calmer voice. "I'd love to join you guys... I have been pretty lonesome lately," she admitted to him. "You're sure I won't be a bother? I don't want to be deadweight, so you should put me to work... As long as it doesn't involve lifting things with my mind. That would be messy." Erika shook her head. She really needed to work on her telekinesis.
